Children need vitamin D for normal growth and development; however, vitamin D deficiency is widespread. Vitamin D3 is formed in the skin through exposure to sunlight, but northern winters and use of sunscreen can make it difficult for children to get adequate levels of the vitamin directly from the sun.
“The sunshine vitamin” is essential for calcium and phosphorus absorption and helps build healthy teeth and bones. Health care practitioners now recommend supplemental vitamin D for children of all ages to help avoid vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is necessary for normal childhood development, as it also plays a role in cardiovascular, immune, and nervous system health.
Treehouse Vitamin D3 gummies are naturally sweetened with evaporated cane juice and organic tapioca syrup. They are trusted by moms because of what they DON’T contain:

Research in brief
Vitamin D’s main role in the body involves maintaining levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood by facilitating absorption in the gut and regulating the processes that turn calcium into bone. Inadequate vitamin D intake puts children at risk for nutritional rickets, a disease where bones cannot harden sufficiently to support the body’s weight. Canadian researchers found 104 cases of rickets in children due to vitamin D-related deficiency within a 2-year period; they maintain that childhood rickets is persistent in Canada (Ward et al., 2007).
Vitamin D insufficiency has been linked to common chronic diseases in children. Children with low vitamin D status have a greater risk of allergies, and make 50% more trips to the emergency room for severe asthma attacks (Litonjua, 2012; Brehm et al., 2010). New research suggests that vitamin D plays a role in maintaining healthy immunity (Wagner et al., 2008).
